Signature boot-showdown: F50 Adizero Messi vs. Vapor IX CR7

There can be no doubt that Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi are the best footballers in the world; it is however quite a lot harder to determine, which of the two is the undisputed best in the world. Each has been rewarded for their stupendous displays on the football pitch, with exclusive colourways from their respective sponsors and here it might be easier to pick a winner. Adidas F50 Adizero Messi or Nike Mercurial Vapor IX CR7?

It is a discussion that seems to have no end; who is better? Cristiano Ronaldo or Lionel Messi? The latter has it literally set in stone that he has been the best for the last four years, but regardless, many still believe that the Portuguese Ronaldo is an at least worthy adversary. Both have in common that they are adored by millions around the world, but maybe above all loved by their sponsors, Nike and Adidas, to whom they are invaluable.

Lionel Messi has, for many years now, played with Adidas boots and he is without comparison the biggest star, who uses Die Drei Streifen. The Barcelona star prefers Adidas F50 Adizero and has done so, for as long as it has been possible. The front figure was recently rewarded with an exclusive version of the boot, which has just been given to him alone and it has quite aptly been named the Adidas F50 Adizero Messi.

The same goes for Cristiano Ronaldo, but it is hardly a new experience for him, getting a new signature colourway, as he has had quite a few through the years. He has just been given a new one, which once again manages to top the previous. Nike Mercurial Vapor IX CR7 is the name and it combines the well known safari print with fresh colours and speed streaks. The questions is; how does Ronaldo's boot measure up to Messi's?

The design of the two boots reflect the two stars well. Adidas F50 Adizero Messi is designed in collaboration with the Argentinian himself and his quiet nature is definitely something the classic and elegant boot portrays. The same can hardly be said about Cristiano Ronaldo's and the Portuguese Mercurial man has as much pace in his lifestyle off the pitch, as he has on it. Therefore it is no surprise, that it has been given a more daring and flamboyant design, which has also been done so on the request of CR7 himself.

Besides the visual design, the boots are also quite different, but they do however have one thing in common; they are both speed boots. Adidas F50 Adizero continues to impress weight wise, which on Messi's version has been bumped all the way down to 156 grams. This particular number is something the Vapor IX can not compete with, as it clocks in at 185 grams. Worth mentioning is however that Ronaldo's boot is lighter in praxis, as Messi uses an especially designed leather version, which weighs 205 grams.

The soleplates also differ greatly, as Nike have used an outsole, which has been reinforced with fibreglass; a double layer underneath the mid foot and a single layer under the front foot. It is accompanied by the revolutionising stud-configuration, which only has two studs on the heel. The outsole and stud-configuration on the Adidas F50 Adizero has, in the meantime, not changed at all from the first model and the Traxion 2.0 stud-configuration is still attached to a Sprintframe, where the only change is the addition of MiCoach.

It is an undisputed fact that Adidas F50 Adizero and Nike Mercurial Vapor IX are the two leading lights on the speed boot market, but that is only appropriate considering their owners. Shouldn't the two best footballers on the planet play in the best equipment available? The two boots are fantastic examples of design and function working together in perfect harmony.

Cristiano Ronaldo vs. Lionel Messi. There will probably never be agreed upon who is the better; they are two players who divide opinions and the same can be said for their signature boots. It is very likely that you love or hate them.

We can not at the office agree, which of the two boots we like the best, therefore we would like your help. Do you like the Adidas F50 Adizero Messi, or the Nike Mercurial Vapor IX ACC CR7 best? And why? Drop your comment in the box down below.
