Marco Reus and Roman Weidenfeller are being sorted out with a pair of brand new boots in time for tonight’s Champions League final. Their preferred Puma Powercat 1.12 has been given a proper overhaul, which will match the Dortmund kit more than well with it’s black, yellow and blue colours.

As if it wasn’t enough looking forward to today with the biggest game of the season; the Champions League final, we can now also look forward to seeing the new boots in action. This year’s final is being played in London, and the battle is between Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich, who will take on Wembley for a grand German clash. Puma are not going to pass on this chance, and will therefore launch Puma Powercat 1 Black/Yellow/Blue.

We will most certainly see Borussia Dortmund’s Marco Reus and Roman Weidenfeller wearing the boot tonight, and it is also quite obvious that Puma have been inspired by the Dortmund colours. We already know that BVB will be playing in their Europe shirts, which, similar to the home shirts are designed with black and yellow colours. We are guessing that the new Powercat 1 Black/Yellow/Blue will match it quite well.

Puma were lucky enough to catch Borussia Dortmund’s Marco Reus ahead of the big final, and managed to ask him a few questions; here are the the Q&A’s.

Dortmund got labelled as the underdogs in the semi finals against Real Madrid; but do you think it will be the same in the final against Bayern? And do you see this as an advantage or a disadvantage?

Marco Reus: " We are aware that we do not go to London as the favourites to take the title, but I wouldn’t say that we are underdogs. Anything can happen in football, and we are ready to take play our chance to write history at Wembley."

How do you feel about clashing with Bayern in the final? Would you rather have played Barcelona, as you have never met them before?

Marco Reus: " The final is always a clash between the two most successful teams. With Bayern Munich we go up against an opponent that we know better than all of the non-German teams, but this is surely a huge accomplishment for German football, which is fantastic."

Dortmund and Bayern have a rather similar way of playing; what do you think is their biggest strength?

Marco Reus: "In the Bundesliga Bayern have proved that they can play fresh and very offensive football. The team has a very strong offensive style, but their midfield and defensive play is also very successful, and manage to keep the opponents in check. "

Since we are having an all German final, do you think this symbolises a change of power in European football? Are you also proud of German football?

Marco Reus: " It is a fantastic moment for German football, but I also belivev that it could change right away; maybe even in the coming year. The other teams are probably going to adapt to our style, which will make it harder. But it is surely an accomplishment for German football and it really shows how strong our league is and also how good our players are."

Going back to the boot, it is still the same Puma Powercat 1.12, which we know quite well. The upper on the forefoot and the medial side is designed with a soft and delicious kangaroo leather, which ensures a terrific fit and a natural touch on the ball. In order to ensure the stability needed, the lateral side of the midfoot and the heel have been designed with a durable synthetic material. This also provides extra protection for tackling, and it keeps the weight at a minimum.

Precision and power are the two main focus areas on the Puma Powercat 1.12 and this is realised by the 3D Duo Power Shooting technology, which is located on the instep. The small fins are produced from a thermo plastic material, which has two degrees of sturdiness. This delivers the function that it pulls itself together very quickly as you strike the ball, hereby releasing the energy as the ball leaves your boot and hereby bringing extra power to your strike.

On the bottom of the boot, Puma have chosen to go with a Pebax outsole, which combines low weight and high flexibility. This helps ensure the Powercat 1.12 its incredible comfort, which it has become known for – and, as Jakob mentioned in his review of the boot, he would pick this boot if he had to walk to Rome in a pair of football boots. Comfort is something that Puma value very much, and the stud configuration also adds to this.

Marco Reus speaks of the Puma Powercat 1.12: "The boot is a perfect combination of technology and comfort and it gives me the confidence to perform on the pitch. Instead of absorbing the energy, I feel that I adds power to my strikes, which is an essential thing for me and my goalscoring. I have been wearing Puma powercats boots for some years now, and I am looking forward to doing the same in the future."
