Rumours have been going around since November 2014, and this week it finally became official; Umbro are taking over the sponsorship of the big Dutch club, PSV Eindhoven from next season. Hereby making a clear statement that they are really back in football.

Just a couple of year back, Umbro was acquired by Nike, to be sold off again later on. And after having lost most of their players and clubs, Umbro are now looking get back into the game. First off, they signed Everton and now the red and white stripes from PSV Eindhoven with a partnership running for a minimum of five years.

And it’s not just any club that Umbro have gotten their hands on this time around; far from it actually. Originated as the sports club of electronics giant Philips, PSV is the most winning Dutch club after Ajax Amsterdam. They are also leading the Eredivisie comfortably at the moment, and are starting to look just as strong as they did around the millenium. They have also been wearing Nike for no less than 21 years - surely not something Umbro can complain about…

Now it’s time to look forward, and Umbro will be in charge of the red and white striped shirts for the next five years. The design is still a secret (but expect vertical stripes…). Even if Umbro did provide a little sneak-peak at a lush shirt during the press conference, it was ‘just’ a training shirt. If Umbro can deliver, the gents Depay, Narsingh and Wijnaldum are gonna look sharp on the pitch…
