Yesterday marked the day where FIFA first hosted the Club World Cup in its current format in 2005. Before that it was called the Toyota Cup, which was played between the winners of the Copa Libertadores and the European Cup. On this day a completely crazy final was played in that tournament. A final that ended with 20 penalty kicks.

It was the final between Nacional from Uruguay and PSV. After 90 minutes it finished 1-1, with one of the goals being scored by Brazil legend - Romario. In extra-time Ronald Koeman scored a penalty, but just before the final whistle Ostoloza sent the game to Penalties.

And it would end up being a very nerve wracking shoot out, with 10 kicks each, before Nacional finally stood victorious. We have found the original highlights - with an Uruguayan commentator who doesn’t hold back (He is very happy).

9-12-1988 PSV played Nacional. There have been plenty of exciting penalty shoot outs since, but which is the best ever?
