JayMike went to New York for the Nike Innnovation Summit to witness the Superfly V, the Anti Clog, the Grip Socks and the latest National Team Kits. Here's how it went down.
This week, the annual Nike Innovation Summit was held in the city that never sleeps. The American giants had the whole shebang rolled up and were ready to show off their latest innovations across sports - including, of course, the beautiful game.
When you're invited to a Nike event, you know it's going to be a full-on awesome experience - from a small 3D printed teaser version of the Superfly V to Mark Parker introducing the whole shebang with an inspirational speech (and casually also presenting a self-lacing shoe as you do) things weren't done half-way.
And full-on awesomeness was exactly what awaited us in New York. The big headline was of course the Mercurial Superfly V, which builds on the current generation of the boot. Set to launch in June 2016, the boot has seen a fair few changes with an anatomically shaped sole plate, new stud configuration for better acceleration and braking and added texture on the upper for more grip. Nike showed off a host of exciting colour ways of the Superfly V - and although many of them were just for show or prototypes, I couldn't help enjoy myself... Seriously, how good-looking is that white Superfly?
Also, Nike lifted the lid to the brand new Anti-Clog technology, which basically ensures that mud will never stick to your sole again. It's all very techy, but VP of Football, Max Blau, showed me how it worked first-hand - and it actually seems like it'll do wonders as the sole becomes lubricous (or, slippery enough for mud not to stick in common English) once activated by water. It's quite good and in my opinion something that has the potential to really change the game.
Having absorbed all the boot innovation goodies there, I also got a chance to check out the brand new Grip Socks and to see the brand new national team kits. Grip Socks look to have potential to become a good alternative to Trusox and the national team kits showed off not only the latest designs, but also the Aeroswift technology. It's all about a tight, lightweight fit, and the way the material moves and stretches with your body seems absolutely incredible. Oh, and how good is that France away kit?
In other words, there was no shortage of awesomeness from Nike in terms of innovations, and I honestly can't wait to try out the Superfly V and the Anti Clog tech. What are your thoughts on the new boots though? Let us know below and stay tuned for much more cool info on the Superfly V.
