adidas created their series of Limited Collection football boots, because of the very noticeable rise in football boot enthusiasts being part of a collectors culture. To celebrate and further evolve this movement adidas have started creating more and more of these next-level Limited Edition drops, which give the collectors the football boot awesomeness they crave. This continues with a contemporary take on the all-time adidas classic; Copa .

There are no words to describe how bold a move it is from adidas to even attempt to create a new interpretation of the iconic Copa Mundial, let alone one so drastically different. On the new adidas Copa SL, they have looked to build a modern version of the classic boot, which displays adidas’ innovative flair and creative spirit.

In that process they have replaced the soft kangaroo leather upper with a thin synthetic, a move that will instantly cause controversy among fans of the original, but still one that offers a very modern take on a boot so iconic. When asked if he was nervous about moving away from the original materials, Sam Handy, Vice President of Design and one of the driving forces behind the project, said the following:

“We’re fiercely proud of our archive, but wanted to inject a new twist on this boot. The Limited Collection allows us the opportunity to try these exciting developments in super limited quantities.”

Brave as adidas have been in their design of the new adidas Copa SL, they have still managed to make sure the boot keeps its iconic silhouette and have also made sure the boot still features the legendary boot tongue. It’s drastic and radical, but if you take the boots for what they are, they are pretty damn awesome.
