The league title races around the world are really coming down to the wire now and you get the feeling there are still a few twists to the tale. We take a closer look at the best boots worn by the professionals this weekend here.

Paul Pogba (Juventus) - adidas ACE 16+ PureControl

Back in blue. Paul Pogba has in recent weeks been playing in the ultra Limited Edition boots he designed himself, but in the crucial Serie A game against Fiorentina last night he gave them a break and wore the equally brilliant Shock Solar adidas ACE 16+ PureControl.

Francesco Totti (Roma) - Nike Tiempo Legend 6 Custom fold over tongue

What a night that was! Coming off the bench last Wednesday and scoring two goals to flip the game on its head. Words can’t describe how legendary a figure Francesco Totti truly is and an icon like him deserves as many customs boots as he wants. As with all his boots ever, Il Re di Roma has had a special pair made, which feature the classic fold over tongue.

Sergio Agüero & Marco Reus (Manchester City & Dortmund) - PUMA evoSPEED SL II Tricks

Last week PUMA unveiled their newest generation of PUMA evoSPEED SL boots, which will be worn at this summer’s European Championship and Copa America. The biggest PUMA stars have already pulled on the new boots and the striking tricks design has already made a big impression on the pitch. Also, it was good to get a close-up shot of the Marco Reus boots, so you can get an impression of the many modifications on them.

Olivier Giroud (Arsenal) - PUMA evoPOWER 1.3 Tricks

In the same Tricks colourway PUMA also released a new pair of PUMA evoPOWER 1.3 boots, which also hit the pitches this weekend. One of the players was Olivier Giroud and although he be one charming dude, he hasn’t found his scoring form this season. Luis Suarez scored more league goals last week, than The Charm Striker has picked up all season. Ouch.. But at least your boots looks great!

Gianluigi Buffon (Juventus) - Puma evoPOWER Grip 2.3 RC Tricks

Last week when Puma launched the new Tricks colourway, they also introduced it on the goalkeeper gloves. You can say what you like about the combination of pink and yellow, but it works very well with the more toned-down Juventus kit. They seemed to suit Buffon very well indeed, because he saved a penalty in the 90th minute, which secured Juventus a 2-1 win against Fiorentina. GOAT.

David De Gea (Manchester United) - adidas Ace Zones Positive Cut

It would take a month after adidas introduced the Shock Solar colourway, before we got to see David De Gea in them. A guess as to why that could be, is that he has a problem with the fit on the gloves and therefore gets them specially made with - you won’t believe this - a Flat Cut! adidas don’t usually make gloves with a classic Flat Cut - or the Positive Cut to use adidas’ terminologi - so that could explain the delay.

Gareth Bale (Real Madrid) - adidas X Custom

No Ronaldo, no problem. Gareth Bale stepped up his game in the absence of CR7 and helped Real Madrid mount an almighty comeback that kept them in touching distance at the top of the table. He did so in a fairly old X 15 colourway, which he has had heavily modified. You can’t blame him for sticking to them, because a colourway like that goes with just about anything, so while adidas might not be fans of his decision, we still approve!
