So it begins.. A month of football madness, which is certain to bring football boots galore! The Copa America kicked off this weekend and has already brought us a couple of goodies. Read along and see what boots caught our eye.
Miguel Samudio (Paraguay) - adidas Copa SL Custom
We kick things off with a spot you certainly don’t see every day. We will have to admit, we thankfully didn’t watch this particular 0-0 game between Paraguay and Costa Rica, but while looking through images from the game, we quickly picked up on Miguel Samudio, who turned up in a pair of adidas Copa SL football boots. He has oddly chosen to remove one of my personally favourite details on the synthetic remakes and cut off the tongue. Strange decision in my book, but whatever floats his boat I suppose.
Edinson Flores (Peru) - Umbro Medusæ
Umbro are actually very well represented in the Copa America, where they have several players and a few teams rocking their boots and kits. One of them is Edinson Flores, who showed off the quite magnificent white Umbro Medusæ in Peru’s first game of the tournament.
Robbie Williams (England Soccer Aid 16) - Nike Magista Obra Spark Brilliance
And now for something slightly less competitive, because while this weekend saw the start of the Copa America, it also played host to the 2016 Soccer Aid match. Superstars like Ronaldinho, Cafu, Louis Tomlinson and Robbie Williams were in attendance, and all showed their support for a good cause. For the event Robbie Williams had been hooked up with a pair of the brand new Spark Brilliance Magista Obra.
Edgar Davids (Rest of the World, Soccer Aid 16) - adidas Messi 15.1
Also showing up for the Unicef Soccer Aid 16 game was Edgar Davids, who for the game pulled on a pair of Lionel Messi’s old signature boots. An interesting choice, but you can’t really blame him for showing his admiration for the Argentine wizard.
Aaron Ramsey (Wales) - New Balance Visaro II Whiteout
New whiteout boots to match his hair! Aaron Ramsey played against Sweden in a pair of whiteout New Balance football boots, which have never been seen before. It’s almost certainly the next generation of Visaro, which if the first boot is anything to go by, will be another fabulous construction for the pitches trequartista. Can’t wait to see what they have going on!
Zlatan Ibrahimovic (Sweden) - Nike Mercurial Vapor XI and Vapor X
He didn’t score, but that doesn’t change the fact that just about every Swedish attack flowed through Zlatan, as they dismantled Wales. He has been training in the Nike Mercurial Vapor XI and also used them during warm-up, but when it was time for kick off he switched back to the tenth generation. I imagine we will definitely see him in the Vapor XI soon enough though.
Bacary Sagna (France) - Nike Hypervenom Phantom II
We have been looking forward to the new upper arriving on the Hypervenom for a while and it would appear that Bacary Sagna has felt the same way. He has in any case switched from the Mercurial Superfly to the Hypervenom, as soon as they switched to the old NikeSkin construction. An interesting change for a right back.
