Every now and then something special appears out of nowhere and turns the world of football on its head. That was exactly what happened 13 years ago, when a young kid, wearing the number 28 on his back, stepped onto the pitch for Sporting Lissabon. This is the story of CR7, Chapter 3: Discovery.
Up until 2003 the talk about a young kid from Madeira hadn’t spread much further than the Portuguese boarders. Marked as a massive talent – a natural diamond - Cristiano Ronaldo had managed to get a spot on the first team in Sporting. And soon the word would start to spread about a unique 20-year old wonderboy. In the summer of that same year, Sporting invited the English giants from Manchester United to play a training match in Lissabon.

Discovery is the third and latest chapter in the series about Cristiano Ronaldo. It is dedicated to a very specific and decisive event in the career of CR7. It is a direct reference to the above memtioned friendly between Sporting and Manchester United on August 6th. A match that Sporting won 3-1 and where Cristiano Ronaldo convinced Sir Alex Ferguson that his next home should be The Theatre of Dreams. Just a few days after the match, Manchester United presented Cristiano Ronaldo as their new signing, and well, the rest his pretty much history.
The newest Nike Mercurial Superfly 5 CR7 Chapter 3: Discovery is designed to pay homage to Cristiano’s club, Sporting Lissabon, the green colour, while the yellow colour reflects the golden age that Cristiano Ronaldo was about to enter. Additionally, Nike have added some details, to remember the decisive match that eventually lead to the discovery of CR7. On the heel the date of the match has been added, while the blueprint of the stadium is printed into the insole. Like on previous two chapters, the CR7 logo is placed on the side of the heel in shimmering silver.
This is the first CR7 boot from the latest edition of the Mercurial Superfly and we expect that he will play in these boots in the upcoming couple of months, where they obviously are going to shine the brightest when Real Madrid meet Sporting Lissabon in the Champions League and Barcelona in El Clasico in December.
