Cristiano Ronaldo will be the only Nike athlete to wear his very own special Player Edition, a boot inspired by the Portuguese culture and conceptualized by the Azulejo Tiles. What do CR7 and the Azulejo tiles have in common? They are both a Portuguese national treasure. These tiles are a form of Portuguese and Spanish painted tin-glazed ceramic tile work. They are an ornamental art form, but back in the day they also had a specific functional capacity like temperature control in homes.
For this boot the color scheme is nuanced, layered warm blues with a metal copper edge. Nike took visual inspiration from the Portuguese icons to show what can be achieved when one dedicates themselves to the craft.
