In this guide, we rank the top 10 Puma football boots based on real playing experience, comfort, fit, weight and performance on the pitch.
Whether you want speed boots, leather boots or all-round football boots, this list will help you find the right model for your game.
Below you can watch JayMike’s video where he ranks the best Puma boots and explains the differences between each model.
Top 10 Puma football boots ranked
Puma has improved a lot in recent generations, especially with the Future, Ultra and King lines. There are now several strong options, but they all feel different on the pitch.
This ranking is based on playing experience and personal preference, which means a boot lower on the list is not bad - it just might suit a different type of player.
If a boot fits your foot well and makes you feel confident, it can still be the best choice for you.
10. Puma Future 9 Pro
The Future 9 Pro is a solid football boot, but compared to the other Pro models in Puma’s lineup it does not feel quite as strong overall.
The upper is made from a soft textile mesh that feels comfortable straight out of the box. It becomes flexible quickly and gives a natural feel on the foot, even though it does not have the same molded texture and 3D pods as the Ultimate version. Because of that, the touch on the ball feels slightly simpler, but the upper is very easy to wear.
The fit is fairly wide in the forefoot and decent in the midfoot, but the heel feels a bit shallow and could offer better lockdown. The outsole has also been changed, but it still feels quite heavy and not ideal for artificial grass, even though the stud shape is improved.
Overall, the Future 9 Pro is comfortable, but the heel and outsole hold it back compared to the other Pro models.
9. Puma Ultra 6 Pro
The Ultra Pro does a better job of copying the feel of the Ultimate version, which is exactly what you want from a Pro model.
You get a similar mesh upper with GripControl coating, which gives a textured and grippy feel on the ball. The fit runs true to size and feels closer to the Ultimate compared to the Future Pro, which makes the boot easier to recommend.
You also get a NanoGrip insole, which helps keep the foot locked in place, but the outsole is heavier than on the Ultimate. Because of that, the boot does not feel as lightweight as you would expect from a speed boot.
For the price, the Ultra Pro is solid, but the weight keeps it from ranking higher.
8. Puma Ultra 6 Carbon
The Ultra 6 Carbon is one of the most extreme boots in Puma’s lineup.
The carbon outsole is extremely stiff and very aggressive, with long studs and a high toe spring. This makes the boot very responsive, but also harder to use for regular play. The feeling is very different compared to most football boots, and it takes time to adjust.
If you like a very explosive and aggressive boot, this can feel amazing, but for most players it will be too extreme as an everyday option.
Because of that, it is impressive but not the most practical choice.
7. Puma Ultra 6 Carbon Nitro
This version takes the Carbon concept even further.
With Nitro foam in the midsole, you get extra energy return and a strong push-off feeling when running. Combined with the carbon plate, the boot feels very explosive and very aggressive.
At the same time, the boot feels bulky and the toe sits quite high off the ground, which makes it very different from normal football boots. The studs are also very aggressive, which makes the boot more niche.
If you want a sprint-style feeling unlike anything else, this is special - but it is not for everyone.
6. Puma Future 9 Fusion
The Future 9 Fusion sits between the Pro and the Ultimate, but it can feel like a mix of both without fully replacing either.
The upper combines mesh material with molded texture, and the fit is wider than both the Pro and the Ultimate. The heel feels better than on the Pro, but still not as secure as on the Ultimate.
It is comfortable and flexible, but compared to other boots in the same price range it does not stand out as much in terms of weight, materials or performance.
It is a good boot, but slightly confusing in the lineup.
5. Puma King 20 Pro
This is where the ranking starts to get really interesting, because the King 20 Pro does a very good job of copying what makes the Ultimate version so comfortable, but at a lower price.
The Total Touch upper is a soft synthetic leather that feels flexible straight out of the box. It molds easily to the shape of your foot and gives a very natural, slipper-like sensation when you wear the boot. There is no stiffness, and the padding in the upper makes the boot feel very comfortable even during longer sessions.
The fit is quite wide and accommodating, especially in the forefoot, which makes it a good option for players who need more space. The heel does not have the same custom foam as the Ultimate, but it still feels secure enough for most players.
The outsole is solid and stable, and overall this is one of the best value-for-money boots Puma makes right now.
4. Puma Future 9 Ultimate
The Future 9 Ultimate is a clear improvement over the previous generation, especially because of the new one-piece upper.
The mesh material feels soft and flexible, and after break-in it becomes very pliable, giving a natural feel when dribbling and striking the ball. The molded texture on the upper adds a bit of structure without making the boot stiff, which makes the touch feel more controlled.
The fit is fairly accommodating, with decent width in the forefoot and good structure in the midfoot thanks to the power tape, which helps push the foot back into the heel when you lace up. The heel is acceptable, but not perfect, and could offer slightly better lockdown.
The biggest drawback is the outsole, which still feels a bit too stiff and too heavy compared to the best boots on the market. If the outsole was lighter, this boot could easily rank higher.
3. Puma King Platinum Pantera Negra
The King Platinum has one of the best uppers in the entire Puma lineup.
The calf leather feels extremely soft straight out of the box and gives a very natural, glove-like sensation when worn. The material is very flexible and molds easily to the shape of your foot, which makes the boot very comfortable and very easy to play in.
The floating tongue construction allows for a more personal fit, and the forefoot feels very adaptive, especially for players who like a softer leather boot.
The only real weakness is the heel, which feels slightly wide and bulky compared to the best boots on the list. Because of that, the lockdown is not quite as secure as it could be, even though the rest of the boot feels excellent.
If the heel was improved, this could easily be one of the best boots Puma has made.
2. Puma Ultra 6 Ultimate
The Ultra 6 Ultimate is one of Puma’s best speed boots right now, and a very strong competitor to other top lightweight boots on the market.
The upper is thin and soft, and it molds nicely to the foot after a short break-in period. Even though the material feels minimal, the boot still offers very good stability, especially on lateral movements.
The fit is close and responsive, and the heel feels decent, even though it could be slightly tighter for perfect lockdown. One of the best things about this boot is the AG version, which works very well on artificial grass but can also be used on firm ground if you want a less aggressive setup.
The boot feels lightweight, fast and stable without being too extreme, which makes it a very safe choice for players who want speed without sacrificing comfort.
1. Puma King 20 Ultimate
The King 20 Ultimate is the best Puma boot right now, because it combines comfort, fit and performance better than any other model in the lineup.
The Total Touch Plus upper is extremely soft but still structured enough to give a controlled touch on the ball. It feels very natural on the foot and offers a great balance between softness and stability.
One of the biggest highlights is the heel, which uses custom-fit foam that shapes to your foot over time. The more you wear the boot, the better the heel locks in, giving a very secure and almost custom-made feeling.
Even though the boot looks slightly wider, it does not feel bulky when worn. It sits low on the foot and feels agile, even for players with narrower feet.
Because of the comfort, fit and overall performance, the King 20 Ultimate is currently the best Puma football boot you can get.
Which Puma football boots should you choose?
All boots in this list perform at a high level, but the best choice depends on your foot shape, playing style and the surface you play on.
Speed players may prefer the Ultra, players who want comfort may prefer the King, and the Future sits in between as a flexible all-round option.
Choosing the right boots is about fit, confidence and comfort - not just price.
