Choosing the right football can make a big difference in how it feels, performs, and lasts. adidas makes a wide range of balls for every level – from pro match balls to beginner training options. In this guide we break down tiers & price categories, sizes, and surfaces so you can pick the perfect adidas ball for your needs and budget.

Tiers / price categories

adidas footballs are grouped into different levels based on how they're made, certified, and priced. Even if balls look the same on the outside, their construction can be different, which affects how they play and how much they cost.

adidas Pro footballs

Pro balls, often referred to as Official Match Balls (OMB), represent adidas’ best ball technology and are used in top leagues and major tournaments. These FIFA Quality Pro certified balls are made from advanced premium materials and feature thermally bonded panels for waterproofness, along with a high-grade butyl bladder that provides high responsiveness and a natural bounce. This range is designed to prioritise elite match performance and meet the demands of the world’s best players, rather than focusing on long-term durability.

adidas Competition footballs

Competition balls offer match-level performance at a more affordable price. Their design and outer material are very similar to the Pro version and they are often FIFA Quality Pro certified. While the materials are slightly less premium than the Pro version, these balls are still ideal for leagues, tournaments, and competitive amateur matches.

adidas League footballs

adidas League balls are affordable, high-quality match balls designed for both games and serious training. They use TSBE technology, a seamless construction that helps maintain shape, reduce water absorption, and provide a smooth, consistent touch similar to top-tier models.

Lighter versions like the J290 and J350 are the same size as standard balls but weigh only 290g and 350g respectively, making them ideal for young players developing control and technique.

adidas Training footballs

adidas Training balls, often called "Tiro," are built to handle frequent use and different playing conditions, making them perfect for daily practice. They feature a machine-stitched shell, which is sturdy but can let water in, making the ball heavy when playing in the rain. The Training range is ideal for players who train regularly and want a ball that lasts.

adidas Club footballs

While they may not have the same high performance as competition or training balls, they offer solid quality and dependable performance. These balls are great for groups or teams on a budget.

adidas Mini footballs

Mini or skills balls are smaller, lighter footballs, usually weighing 160–180 g with a foam core, designed for recreational play, skill practice, and technical training. Made from soft materials for easier control and safety, they’re perfect for juggling, casual games, or helping young players learn ball handling.

Sizes

adidas footballs come in different sizes to suit all ages and levels of play, from smaller balls for children to full-size match balls for adults.

adidas ball size 5

Size 5 is the standard adult size and is used in all official adult matches and by most teenagers. This size is the best choice for full-field football and is the most common size for adidas footballs. It is suitable for players aged 12 and above, including adults. All adidas footballs tiers (except Mini) come in this size.

adidas ball size 4

Size 4 is slightly smaller and lighter than size 5, making it ideal for youth players still developing their skills. It offers better control and helps young players adapt to the game. Typically used by children aged 8 to 12, size 4 is available for adidas Competition, League, Training, and Club balls.

adidas ball size 3

Size 3 is designed for younger children, usually up to the age of 8. The smaller and lighter ball makes it easier for kids to kick, control, and learn basic football skills. This size is availble for adidas Training and Club balls.

adidas ball size 1 & 2

adidas size 1 and 2 balls are small balls made for skill training and fun. They are perfect for practicing touch, control, and tricks.

Surface

Choosing a ball that matches the surface you play on ensures the best performance and durability. Below, we’ve outlined the different options adidas offers.

adidas Grass footballs

Balls designed for natural grass pitches are the standard choice for most outdoor fields. They are engineered to provide accurate flight, excellent touch, and consistent responsiveness on natural grass, whether the ground is dry or slightly wet, making them ideal for matches and competitive play.

adidas Indoor & Futsal footballs

Indoor or futsal balls, called Sala balls by adidas, are designed for hard indoor floors and sports halls. They are slightly heavier and have a lower bounce to suit the fast pace and tight spaces of indoor football.

adidas Street footballs

Street balls are made to withstand rough surfaces such as concrete or asphalt. They are built with reinforced panels and tougher materials to resist abrasion, making them perfect for playing on urban streets or schoolyards.

adidas Beach footballs

Beach footballs are lighter and softer to handle sandy surfaces. They are designed to prevent excessive bounce and provide a comfortable touch while playing on the sand.
