At the age of 15, Mané travelled 405 kilometers north from his home in Bambaly to the capital Dakar in Senegal, to attend the local football trials. Mané was selected by the Senegalese football academy, Academie Generation Foot, from which he later advanced to become a Lion of Terenga, better known as part of the Senegalese national team.
