How to make your football gear more pro

Do you want your football gear to feel more professional? You don’t need a kit manager or the most expensive equipment to upgrade your setup. With a few smart choices, you can make your football bag more organized, more comfortable, and much closer to what the pros use. In this guide, we go through five simple upgrades that can make a big difference for both comfort and performance.

Below you can watch JayMike’s video where he goes through all the tips in more detail.

Small upgrades that make a big difference

You don’t need to change everything in your football bag to feel more professional. In most cases, it’s the small details that make the biggest difference. These are things that many pro players use, and once you try them yourself, it’s hard to go back.

Below are five simple upgrades that can make your gear feel a lot more pro.

Number 5 - Apparel

Everyone needs the basics like a shirt and shorts, but if you want to upgrade your gear, you should look at what you wear underneath. Many professional players use base layers or compression gear under their kit.

Compression shorts, tights, or long-sleeve shirts help support your muscles, improve blood flow, and make recovery easier after training and matches. They also help keep you warm in cold weather and comfortable when it’s hot.

If you often play outside in cold conditions, having gloves or a snood in your bag can also make a big difference.

Number 4 - Socks

This is one of the easiest ways to make your gear feel more professional. Team socks are not always the most comfortable, and many players prefer using their own high-quality football socks instead.

Grip socks have become very popular, and for good reason. They help stop your feet from sliding inside your boots, improve comfort, and reduce the risk of blisters.

Some players also use sock sleeves together with their own socks to get a tighter and cleaner fit.

Number 3 - Small bits

One of the best things you can do is keep all your small accessories in one place. Many players use a small bag inside their football bag with all the little things they need.

This can include tape, blister plasters, spare studs, insoles, muscle gel, or shoe care products. It keeps your bag organized and makes sure you’re always ready for training or matches.

Some players also bring sliders or shower sandals, which can be useful after games.

Number 4 - Shin pads

Shin pads are mandatory, but that doesn’t mean you should just use the cheapest pair. A good pair of shin pads should fit well, feel comfortable, and give you proper protection.

Some players prefer lightweight shin pads, while others want more protection. The most important thing is that they stay in place and feel secure when you play.

Leg sleeves can also help keep your shin pads in position and add extra comfort.

Number 5 - Boots

Your football boots are the most important part of your gear. You don’t need the most expensive pair, but you should always choose boots that fit well and match the surface you play on.

Different surfaces require different outsoles, like FG for natural grass, AG for artificial grass, or SG for soft ground.

Using the right boots improves comfort, performance, and helps reduce the risk of injury. Some players even bring more than one pair to be ready for different conditions.

If you’re unsure which boots to choose, you can read more in our guide Best Football Boots by Playing Surface: Complete Product Guide where we explain the differences between the different outsole types and which one you should use.

Make your gear feel more pro

You don’t need everything in this guide to feel more professional, but even small upgrades can make a big difference. Better socks, a good base layer, or the right accessories can help you feel more prepared every time you go out to play.

Choose what works for you, your level, and your budget, and focus on the details that make you feel comfortable and confident.
