Now the wait is finally over and Nike have finally, after much tantalising wait, unveiled their first Manchester City home shirt. Unsurprisingly it is based on the iconic sky blue colour, but it still hides plenty of super cool details, which leave a really good impression.

The Citizens have for many years been synonymous with the Manchester-based brand Umbro, but this year it is Nike, who will henceforth be responsible for designing and producing the clubs shirts. Their first shot at one of those, is the one before you and it is of course light blue. It will be worn by superstars like Agüero, Tevez, Yaya Toure and Kompany, as they try to reclaim the Premier League trophy, which was clinched by Manchester United this season.

The design is very classic and one of the features is the round crewneck-collar, which is white and blue around the edges. It elegantly breaks the sky blue and creates a super contrast. The same detailing can be seen around the sleeves, which also have the navy and white edges. It is a subtle tribute to the navy coloured socks, which Manchester City used with their first ever home kit, back in 1892.

On the chest of the shirt you find the clubs sponsor, Etihad Airways, whose CEO is Sheik Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the owner of Manchester City. Since he bought the club, the blue army has seen a meteoric rise and in the 2011/2012 season they won their first Premier League trophy. They failed to retain it in the following season, but the club is sure to be competing next season again.

Nike are proud of their environmentally friendly production of shirts and the new Manchester City shirt is most definitely no exception. It is produced from recycled polyester, which is derived from plastic bottles. The shirt weighs just 150 grams and is therefore 23% lighter than last years models, but Nike have still managed to make the material 20% stronger. The shirt is naturally made Nike DriFit-technology, which transports sweat and moisture away from the body for optimal comfort.
