How to score goals like Agüero | Watch the video at Unisport.

Reading time: 2 min

There is an incredibly lucky little boy who can boast Lionel Messi as a Godfather, Diego Maradonna as a grandfather and Sergio Agüero as a father. So it’s safe to say that he’s probably going to be quite good at football. As a goalscorer, you can only dream to have those kinds of people to seek advice from, if you want to up your game. This week, we pretend to be Benjamín, and asked daddy Agüero for some golden nuggets to help you guys improve.

Sergio Agüero made his professional debut as a footballer at the tender age of 15, and he’s been hitting the back of the net ever since, so we just had to catch up with him at a recent Puma event, where JayMike asked him for some tips on scoring goals. So if you’re ready to step up your shot-goal ratio, you’ve come to the right place!

“What should kids do to improve as strikers?”

Agüero says that training is fundamental to your overall game and that treating training sessions seriously is very important to get you ready to be as effective as possible in matches. You need to enjoy training and the position that you play on the pitch - if you enjoy what you are doing, you are much more likely to succeed.

“What are the main qualities of a good striker?”

As I mentioned in a previous blog, speed is very important. Speed of thought as well as physical speed. If you can outthink your opponent, you don’t always need to out pace them. Agüero also says that positioning is an integral part of your game. Especially as a striker, the need to get yourself into space to receive the ball from your teammates is what separates the good strikers from the great ones - a real poacher’s instinct.

“What was the best advice you ever received as a kid?”

Every chance in the box needs to be a goal. There can be no fooling around when it comes to scoring goals for your team. He also says that you should never underestimate your opponent.

So that was some valuable advice from one of the best strikers in the world. I hope they help you to improve as a striker.

Below you will see the JayMike’s video that I mentioned.
