Adidas are now ready to reveal their fifth generation of the popular and speedy Adidas F50 Adizero; and the Germans have worked hard to created a boot that is faster, lighter and better than ever before. We take a look at the new boot right here.

The Adidas F50 Adizero has been on the market since 2010, and it has rapidly become one of the most important lightweight boots on the market. While Lionel Messi through the years, has proven what he can do with this boot on his feet, the engineers from Adidas have constantly been working on improving the boot down to the smallest detail. Every single excess gram has been shaved off the boot over the years, and the latest and best materials have been used to create a unique boot.

And the Adidas F50 Adizero is unique. It has a prominent position on the market, as one of the world's very fastest boots for the player who prefers to be a few steps ahead of the opponent. Adidas managed to break the 200-grams barrier way back, and the fourth generation of the Adizero clocked in at an impressive 165 grams. Now Adidas have taken things even even further, and the new and fifth generation of the Adidas F50 Adizero weighs in at a ground-breaking 150 grams.

In the traditional synthetic version, Adidas have moved away from the Sprintskin II with the ultra thin AdiLITE Twin, that we know from the fourth generation of the Adidas F50 Adizero. Instead they have chosen to go with an extra thin version of the technologically advanced Hybridtouch material, which we, for example, now from the Adidas Predator LZ II. The Hybridtouch material provides an incredibly supple upper, which is also strong enough to let them leave out the Sprintweb, which was a central part of the fourth generation.
The Hybridtouch upper is made to emulate leather and hereby combine all the advantages of both synthetic and leather. It is an incredibly supple and thin material, that wraps itself around your foot, yet also takes up less water. In addition, it has a longer lifetime, and doesn't 'overstretch' as leather can do. The Hybridtouch material has been chosen based on feedback from the professional Adidas footballers, who were asking for a softer upper than the previous generation; and therefore Adidas chose to move away from the thin but more stiff AdiLITE Twin to introduce the thin and incredibly soft and supple version of their Hybridtouch.
For the leather version, Adidas have chosen to go with the very nice Taurus leather, which excels by being extremely soft. The leather provides great comfort and a natural touch on the ball. In addition, it is very durable and the result is a boot that is ready to take on even the toughest of challenges on the pitch.
Adidas have hereby said goodbye to the Goleo leather which we saw on the previous generation of the Adizero. Instead the choice has fallen on the very soft Taurus leather, which was initially introduced in connection with the Predator X, and which we know from the Adidas adiPURE 11pro today. The Taurus leather is known to be incredibly soft, while also being very durable.

The upper on both the synthetic and the leather version are complemented by the ultra thin Speedfoil material from the heel to the midfoot. This is a new material that Adidas presents with this new Adizero boot. It is an innovative and very light material that adds to the stability of the boot without compromising the weight. It is a super thin mesh-material, which is covered by an extremely thin foil.
The inspiration for the Speedfoil comes from the world of sailing, where the material is used for some of the world's fastest sail-boats, including multiple Americas Cup winner, the American boat Oracle. Speedfoil combines lightness, softness with flexibility and durability, and is therefore perfect to use on a football boot. The light Speedfoil material works perfectly together with the Hybridtouch upper, which is strong enough in itself to allow Adidas to leave out the Sprintweb material for this version of the Adizero.
In general the Speedfoil material serves to keep the weight at a minimum on the new Adidas F50 Adizero, but Adidas have also kept the stability in mind. Therefore, the heel is equipped with a linng that ensures stability and support. Hereby, Adidas have aimned for the optimal mix of lightness and support around the heel and the back of your foot.

Okay, now into a bit of hardcore detailing with something else that Adidas have changed for the new Adizero, the heel. Some of the feedback that came from the professionals was that the heel was too high and long, which led to some comfort issues around the heel. Therefore Adidas have made it no less than 9mm shorter, so that is still provides the necessary support, yet it doesn't feel like it hinders your heel.
Not everything has been changed on the fifth generation of the Adizero. The Sprintframe 2.0 is till here, and it is just as good as we know it. It seems that Adidas have found just the right combination of low weight, flexibility and stability. In some places the outsole is just 1mm thick, yet the sole is still strong and responsive, and moves together with your foot.
Regarding the stud configuration, Adidas have, on the other hand, gotten into some new thinking. The focus has been on acceleration, direction change and turning; which has resulted in a stud configuration, that very much optimises speed, and lots of it. The name is Speedtraxion, and as you may have guessed, it's all about speed through traction.
The studs are still triangular as we know it from the Traxion 2.0 stud configuration, bus this time around they are more blade shaped on the one side, which allows for an increased contact area with the ground, when the energy is transferred. This ensures an effective kick-off, both n relation to acceleration and direction change. The location of the studs is also thought through, with the bladed side placed in the area used for your kick-off.
