Got the drip? | Unisport x PUMA launches The Drip |

This year marks Unisport's 25th anniversary as a retailer on this planet. But we are more than that. We are also very big fans of football boots. And as boot-lovers, -nerds, and -aficionados, we had to make a 25 year anniversary boot. What else should we do?! Therefore we joined forces with PUMA and made a pair of Unisport exclusive boots (of only 95 pairs!), which encapsulates terms such as innovative, swagger, heritage and most importantly; The Drip!

Two coloured boots

Now we'll introduce you to the story and thoughts around the design of these boots. Looking back at the last 25 years of football history, there has been a lot of spectacular boots. One of those designs, which always has made us raise our eyebrows and get us excited, is the two-coloured boots. You know - when the left and the right are different. It makes you feel like you get two boots in one pair. We love that!

One of the first times we saw it was back in the 1998 World Cup, where Rigobert Song wore a pair of PUMA King Top Pro. Back then Song wore a yellow boot on his right foot and a red boot on his left foot. And that is exactly why, we’ve painted The Drip in those two different colours - red and yellow. Looks nice, doesn’t it?

The Drip

‘The Drip’ is a slang term, which means you have swagger, especially in how you look. You’re hot. You’re cool. You’re on point. You’ve got the sauce.

Hip-hop artists have been using the term 'sauce' as slang for swagger and luxury-branded clothing and accessories since at least 2013. This sense probably came from the meaning of sauce as “something that adds piquance or zest”. In other words, if your sauce is dripping, you’ve got some cool-looking clothes on.

Thus we thought that when you get these Ultras on your feet, you could fairly say that your sauce is dripping. And hence the name “The Drip” was born.

Highly exclusive boot with a crazy design

As mentioned above, The Drip are Unisport exclusive, which means that we are the only retailer in the world, where you are able to buy them. And there will only be 95 pairs worldwide (this is a special number to us, as we were founded in 1995). That is also why you’ll find the text “1 of 95” on the heel of the left boot. On the back of the right boot, you’ll find the roman numerals “XXV”, which stands for 25, thus celebrating our anniversary.

As you can see on the pictures above it looks like sauce is dripping off the boots - in the colours of red and yellow. On the inner you’ll find ‘PUMA’ written in white capital letters and on the outer front, you’ll see the jumping PUMA cat - also in white. The soleplates are made in red and yellow just like the dripping graphics on the upper.

To sum it up - we are making a literal pun on the slang term ‘the drip’ and fused the looks of the PUMA Ultra with one of PUMA's heritage looks, by utilising a dripping paint graphic.

The techs

Like any other PUMA Ultra are The Drip very fast and light. They will of course have the woven MATRYXEVO upper merged with Aramid and carbon fibres, ensuring low weight and full lockdown. The upper is also armed with the GribControl for maximum grip on the ball in all weather. Last but not least are The Drip equipped with the ultra fast PEBA SpeedUnit outsole and v-shaped studs to deliver maximum traction.

To be honest - we are pretty excited about these boots. Not only because we are able to design our own boots, which is basically our childhood-dream. But also because the outcome is way sicker than what we could have imagined! And it’s a pair of PUMA Ultra, which is one of the best boots out there. I mean - these boots has exceeded our expectations by far!
