Pre-season is well and truly on, with all the biggest teams facing off with each other left right and centre. The Champions Cup and Emirates Cup were where most of the fun took place, but there were a few outsiders in the mix too, which really stole the show. Read along and get to see the best spots here…

Radamel Falcao (Chelsea) – PUMA evoSPEED SL Lava Blast/White/Total Eclipse

In the Champions Cup Chelsea faced off with Paris Saint Germain, where newly signed Radamel Falcao got his first run-out. To say things went poorly with Manchester United last season would be putting it mildly, but this season is a fresh slate, with new boots and a new team. For the challenges to come he has gone for the PUMA evoSPEED SL in leather.

Santi Carzola (Arsenal) – PUMA evoSPEED 1.4 Leather Lava Blast/White/Total Eclipse

Santi Carzola is another one of PUMA’s players who also prefers the leather version of his boot. He on the other hand has gone for the slightly heavier alternative and picked the evoSPEED 1.4 over the SL – all due to preference.

Jack Wilshere (Arsenal) – Nike Tiempo Legend Green Strike/Black

The annual Emirates Cup is always a hotbed of new boots and this year was no exception. Nike’s Lightning Storm Pack boots are really starting to take over ahead of the new season and Jack Wilshere is the next player in line, who shows off the brilliant new Tiempo colourway.

Sergio Ramos (Real Madrid) – Nike Tiempo Legend Wolf Grey/Green Strike/Black

One player who hasn’t made the jump is Sergio Ramos, but who could possibly blame him, when you see that kit and boot combo. He is under contract with Nike, so he will probably eventually be forced into the newest colourway, but if I was Sergio Ramos I’d hold onto the Silver Storm and away-kit combo for as long as possible, because it looks mint.

Cristiano Ronaldo (Real Madrid) + Yaya Toure (Manchester City) – Nike Mercurial Superfly IV Volt/Hyper Pink + PUMA – evoPOWER 1.2 White/Total Eclipse/Lava Blast

Another Nike boot that suits the Real Madrid away-kit well is Ronaldo’s Volt Superfly, which has been kept exclusive for him. Ronaldo has held on to this colourway for quite some time now, so might be due a switch to something newer soon. – Yaya Toure is also notorious for holding onto some boots for a little too long, but has finally changed to the new evoPOWER colourway. Let’s see how long he stays in these.

Paul Pogba (Juventus) – Nike Magista Obra NikeID

It looks like Paul Pogba is back in his red NikeID Magista boots. There’s nothing this lad can’t do and he is quickly turning into Unisport’s favourite boot enthusiast. He is however still in close contention with another player, who albeit isn’t quite as good at football as Pogba, but certainly has equally good boot game.

James McClean (West Bromwich Albion) – Nike Mercurial Superfly IV NikeID

The original boot legend James McClean is back! He has been laying low lately and has throughout pre-season been playing in the Silver Storm Pack Mercurial like everyone else, but no more. He has been playing around with some NikeID customisation, with a special heel design that you can’t get any more. Paul Pogba is close, but not quite on the McClean level if you ask me.

Adnan Januzaj (Manchester United) – Nike Mercurial Vapor Blackout

Adnan Januzaj was originally part of the #NewBalanceBlackoutSquad, but I don’t think this is what they had in mind. The young United prodigy suffered a bit of a slump last season and seems to be blaming his boots. I doubt that’s what caused the dip in form, but none the less he has been playing the last few friendlies in a blackouted pair of Mercurial Vapor.

Pre-season always means new boots and that’s exactly what we’ve been given. The new colourways were out in force, but in the end it was the slightly more unique customised boots that stole the show. Who do you think has the better boots, Pogba or James McClean?
