adidas ACE 16+ PureControl Ultra Boost | The sneaker concept explained

Written by Mathias Boughey-Svendsen

Shock and awe is the name of the game, when it comes to sneaker drops, and with the ACE 16+ PureControl Ultra Boost, adidas did both! We now explain all you need to know about them here.

The adidas PureControl Ultra Boost was released in very limited numbers just last week, as a part of the ongoing adidas movement called the “Limited Collection”. The concept behind them was to celebrate and show how the love of football far exceeds what happens on the pitch. Reinventing a football boot for lifestyle.

Within the merging worlds of on-pitch and off-pitch football, this new interpretation of the ACE 16+ PureControl stands out as the first time adidas bring together two different products. The adidas ACE 16+ PureControl Ultra Boost is, as the name pretty obviously alludes to, a mixture of the PureControl football boots and the industry-leading Ultra boost shoe. The adidas Ultra Boost is categorised as a running shoe, but following Kanye West using them frequently as a sneaker, and famously so during New York Fashion week, they quickly became the most hyped sneakers around.

It’s every bit as exceptional as it sounds, but it is at this point I unfortunately have to use the immortal words of Aubrey Drake Graham: “If you’re reading this, it’s too late.” With several thousand sneakerheads signing up to our raffle, the PureControl Ultra Boost is now entirely sold out. However, (!!!) judging by the words of Sam Handy, adidas Football Vice President of Design, the prospect of future colourway drops is very, very bright indeed.

“We’ve created something that football players and fans want to see. We‘ve recognised that people love wearing our football boots on-pitch, and want to replicate that off-pitch. So we’re going to start following our on-pitch releases with off-pitch versions – this is the start of an exciting journey.”

Paul Pogba is the perfect embodiment of a young footballer, who lives for football in every aspect of his life and maybe that is why he is already now wearing his Solar Yellow adidas ACE 16+ PureControl Ultra Boost on holiday in Los Angeles and Miami.
