Unisport Boot Spots | The biggest week of 2016

24.10.2016

Written by Mathias Boughey-Svendsen

Busy, busy, busy. There is no rest for the wicked in the world of football and the games keep on coming. That means more boots and more experimenting from the players. Get the lowdown on the best boot spots here.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic (Manchester United) - adidas X 16.1 Stellar Pack

Ibrahimovic is not held back by any brand contract, because he has been launching his own line of sportswear recently. That’s also why, there are no quarrels at all with him switching from the Nike Mercurial Vapor to the adidas X 16.1 Stellar Pack. He tested the X silo this summer during EURO 16, but nothing more seemed to come of it until now. It will be interesting to follow, because whatever he goes with will be the boot he prefers and his opinion will be completely uninfluenced by money. A rare sight in the modern game.

Robin van Persie (Fenerbache) - adidas X 15.1 Custom

From one Manchester United star to a former. RVP has always been one of the most picky players in the world and with his career entering its final stages, it looks like adidas have stopped giving into his boot demands. Usually they made a fully custom version of each colourway for him, but that is over now. His boots have not been updated for awhile, which is why he is wearing this X 15.1 with modifications like a custom adizero heel counter, leather upper and special soleplate. Sheesh, can’t blame adi here.

Lebogang Phiri (Brøndby) - Nike CTR360 Maestri II

We like your style Phiri, we like your style. The last week or so, Phiri has been spotted playing in a pair of Maestri II, which goes down as one of the most popular Nike boots ever. The world of playmaker football boots was never the same after the CTR360 silo was launched and it’s good to see pro players still respecting an OG.

Kelechi Iheanacho (Manchester City) - Nike Mercurial Vapor XI Spark Brilliance & Floodlights Pack

Iheanacho came on the pitch at halftime against Southampton yesterday, but soon after been subbed on had some trouble with his left Floodlights Pack Vapor. He therefore picked up a pair of his old Spark Brilliance pairs, which he luckily had with him. That is why he rocked a home-made "Tricks" designs, which is otherwise reserved for PUMA players.

Aaron Ramsey & Marouane Fellaini (Arsenal & Manchester United) - New Balance Visaro Signal Limited Edition

Two players who went blonde this summer, wearing the New Balance Visaro Signal Limited Edition, but achieving very different results. The Visaro Signal has had everyone talking and the bold expression is one you can look forward to seeing on the feet of the biggest New Balance stars.

Neymar (Barcelona) - Nike Hypervenom NJR X Jordan Custom & Nike Hypervenom Floodlights Pack Custom

Neymar flew in straight from Brazil and only had one training session with Barca, before playing and scoring in the Champions League. His limited action must have meant his customised Hypervenom/Vapor boots weren’t quite broken in yet and he therefore shelved them for the second half. The Jordan collab boots look much better if you ask me, so I personally hope to see more of them.

Leo Messi (Barcelona) - adidas Messi 16.1 Space Dust

Messi also had brand spanking new signature boots for the Champions League clash with Manchester City and exactly like Neymar, he decided to change at halftime. The AgilityKnit upper on the Messi boots is actually made to be broken in super quickly, but it would appear they just needed a tad longer on this occasion. He scored one in the Space Dust and two after halftime in the annihilation of Pep Guardiola. Also, in the images above, you can see what it looks like when Lionel Messi wants to fight you. Not exactly fear instilling for a jacked up Argentinian.

Leroy Sane (Manchester City) - Nike Mercurial Superfly V Custom

Leroy Sane is one of the biggest prospects in world football and applies his trade as a winger in the Mercurial. Following in the footsteps of CR7 perhaps? If he can reach those heights remains to be seen, but it looks like he is taking some inspiration from Cristiano already, because just like him, Leroy Sane prefers his Superfly boots with a lower Dynamic Fit Collar. Their boots have been chopped and cropped to sit lower around the ankle. Don’t try this at home, unless your mother is crazy good with a needle and thread.
