After an absolutely crazy launch day yesterday, where we presented no less than 11 new colourways, Puma have chosen to follow up with yet another launch today. We are talking about the Puma evoSPEED 1 SL Green/White/Blue, weighing in at an astonishing 153g, thus taking the spot as the lightest boot on the market right now.

The Puma speed boots have had enormous success over the last few years, which is also displayed by the number of players who are now supporting the evoSPEED collection; Radamel Falcao, Sergio Agüero, Yaya Toure are just a few of the professional players who prefer the lightweight boots by Puma. Having said that, we are not expecting to see any of the players, just mentioned, wearing the Puma evoSPEED 1 SL, but that will not stop us from taking a closer look at the boot.

The 153g super light Puma evoSPEED 1 SL follows the same colour pattern as its 'regular' name brother, (which we took a look at yesterday) and it is one of the most flashy colourways that we have seen from Puma this year. The upper has been given a littler more shine, compared to the 'regular' model, which only ads to the very elegant and speedy look. This is, although, not the only thing that makes this upper special.

The upper has been created with a perforated material, as you may have already noted from the pictures, and even though this might not make the boot more suitable for rainy weather conditions, it does help to keep the weight down at its extremely low level. The Japanese microfibre is incredibly thin, thus giving us all reason to believe that you will have a super nice touch on the ball. In addition, the upper material feels very soft leaving us to believe that the comfort is as good as we are used to from Puma.

Puma evoSPEED 1 SL is the third SL model we have seen from the German company, and we have seen improvements with each generation. The silo continues to combine old technologies with new and they do this with great success. A good example is the grooves in the upper material, which we also saw on the the predecessor, the Puma v1.11 SL – the grooves serve to improve the friction between boot and ball.

In addition, both the stud configuration and the outsole have remained the same, but this is a positive thing. The Pebax outsole is not only incredibly light, but it is also very flexible around the forefoot. This is especially beneficial in connection with your acceleration – and to ensure that your effort is not wasted, the sole is further strengthened by carbon fibre.

The heel on the Puma evoSPEED 1 SL is equipped with an external heel counter that follows the natural contours of the foot, thus providing amazing mobility in the boot. The result is both beneficial regarding your comfort, as well as, your speed. This does not provide as much protection as you may find in heavier boots, so if protection is a key criteria, you might want to look elsewhere.

The 'regular' Puma evoSPEED 1 is already a very light boot with a weight of just 190g, but almost 40g further down the scale we find the evoSPEED 1 SL, thus more than living up to to the 'superlight' written on the inside of the boot. Although the Puma footballers will not be wearing this ultra light speed boot, we are confident that we will spot a few players around the world who have chosen to jump into these boots in the near future.

The Puma evoSPEED 1 SL is built around the same focus areas: Light, Flex, Fit. We can easily tick the box regarding the weight, as 153g is nothing less than amazing. The outsole, the external heel counter and the soft upper delivers the flexibility, and since the boot is made by Puma, we are also confident that the fit is spot on also. All in all, a very complete boot, with a very accomplished colourway, but what is the verdict?
