The famous and prestigious stadium was built in the period from 1944-47, and has since been renovated and enlarged. Originally called stadium Estadio New Charmatín but changed in 1955 its name to Estadio Santiago Bernabéu, in honor of the former player and chairman Santiago Bernabéu Yeste, the probably most important person in Real Madrid's history. The mighty stadium now houses 85,454 spectator seats, making it the second largest stadium in Spain. The stadium has hosted the great matches and great players over the years, including the famous Real Madrid team, Los Galacticos, speaking players like Zinedine Zidane, David Beckham and Raúl. Nowadays, the stars like Cristiano Ronaldo, James Rodriguez and Gareth Bale are battling for Los Blancos at the famous stadium in the hunt for the La Liga title and CL trophy. The final of the Champions League have been played here four times, most recently in 2010 when Inter Milan won 2-0 over Bayern Munich. In addition, European Championship finals in 1964 and the World Cup final in 1982 also been played here and the World Cup final '82 when Italy beat Germany 3-1 is considered by many to be one of the best World Cup finals ever.
