Starting off the top five is the Sokito Scudetta, and for JayMike, the Bio-Touch version is the one to go for. The full Bio-Touch upper combined with the stitch-and-turn heel gives you an incredibly comfortable fit, solid lockdown and a really, really good heel lock.

But it's not just comfortable. The aggressive outsole keeps things responsive and nimble, while the upper gives you a sharp touch on the ball with just a little hint of softness and elegance.

4. PUMA Ultra 7 & New Balance Furon V9 - Fit and Feel Compared

Okay, we're cheating a little here. There was simply no way JayMike was going to leave either the PUMA Ultra 7 or New Balance Furon V9 out of the top five. Both are lightweight, nimble speed boots with textile uppers and seriously responsive outsoles but they feel quite different on foot.

The Ultra 7 is the softer and more accommodating of the two. Its woven upper breaks in nicely, with a thin layer of foam adding a slightly cushioned feel on the ball. The anatomical shape, good midfoot lockdown and improved heel make it easy to wear, while the Nitro setup and aggressive speed-traction studs give you plenty of responsiveness and bite.

The Furon V9 goes for a snugger, sharper sensation. Its thin spacer-mesh upper feels almost sock-like, the heel lockdown is fantastic and the snappy outsole with T-shaped studs offers loads of bite in every direction.

The adidas F50 Hyperfast Elite is so, so good. It's one of JayMike's favourite new boots of the year and pretty much everything he wants from a speed boot: sleek, low-profile, nimble and seriously responsive.

The Haloskin+ upper is genuinely soft and accommodating, while the Halo Cage+ and Halo Belt give you fantastic lockdown through the midfoot. Then there's the F50 Speed System outsole - mega snappy in the forefoot, stable through the midfoot and with studs that simply bite when you push off.

So, why isn't the F50 number one? Simple: the Nike Mercurial Superfly 11 just does things differently. If the F50 is everything JayMike wants from a speed boot, the Superfly 11 is everything he didn't know he wanted until he tried it.

The Flyweave Ultra upper feels really good once broken in, with a nice fit, strong lockdown and a stitch-and-turn heel that keeps your foot securely in place. But the real game changer is underneath. The outsole is incredibly snappy, and the Air Zoom unit gives you this responsive, bouncy, almost trampoline-like kickback every time you put your foot down.

With speed boots being ridiculously good in 2026, stopping at five feels almost unfair. A few more came seriously close to making JayMike's list – and depending on what you want from your boots, some of these could easily be the right choice.

• Mizuno Morelia Neo 5 Beta Japan - A boot that just works. It's light, nimble and really good overall. Give it a few more aggressive bladed studs and it would be even better as a pure speed boot.
• Mizuno Monarcida Neo 3 Elite - Another seriously good option, with a floating tongue and a stitch-and-turn heel that JayMike absolutely loves. Again, put some blades underneath and we're talking.
• adidas F50 Hyperfast EVO - If you want something hyper-light, super minimal and razor-sharp on the ball, this is about as extreme as it gets. It almost disappears on your foot – but it's also quite polarising, so you'll probably either love it or hate it.
• Skechers Razor 2 - Super soft, anatomical and easy to wear, with a snappy outsole underneath. Maybe not quite top-five material, but JayMike would happily play an entire season in it.
• Nike Mercurial Vapor 17 - Still a very good speed boot: light, sock-like and with really nice lock-in. But the softer midfoot takes away some of that pure speed-boot sensation. In fact, JayMike feels the Furon V9 does many of the same things just as well – and some things even better.
