Unisport WebTV: Jakob reviews the Mercurial Vapor X
With so many of you requesting that we review the Nike Mercurial Vapor X, Jakob has gone into review-mode. So if you want to find out more about what the Vapor X is really all about, then spend the next 10 minutes in the company of our super sharp Unisport WebTV host.
When the new Superfly IV came out, it took (And rightly so) most of the attention. This also meant that the Vapor X that joined it, did lose a bit of the spotlight. And if you ask Jakob, then that's a bit of a shame, because if you ask him, then the 10th Generation of the Vapor family, is arguably the best one – ever! But what makes him say that?

The reason Jakob calls this out, as the best one yet, is that Nike have taken all the things that didn't always feature on the earlier models and combined them on this new version.
And when it comes to comfort there are several things that help this speed boot. First and foremost Nike have simply removed the boots tongue and made the upper from a single piece – somewhat inspired by the Superfly design. This combined with the thinner and also softer upper, gives a far more adaptive and personal fit.
One of the things you have to keep in mind is that the new Vapor is slightly longer than previously – about half a size longer to be exact. So we recommend, if the width of your feet allows it, to go half a size down. If not there is no need to despair, because otherwise you just take your regular size and get a bit more length in the toe area.

Another thing that Nike have gone away from, when looking at the new Vapor X is the SpeedControl technology, which gave optimised control when going at full speed. Nike have replaced it with MicroControl, which builds on the same principal, but comes with a different texture that is rougher and less sticky than before. This texture gives a more consistent grip and therefore also a more precise feel with the ball.
Now for a fairly controversial statement from Jakob, because he actually thinks the compressed nylon sole, which the Vapor X is built on, is better than the otherwise so popular carbon fibre sole, which is fitted on the Superfly. He bases his argument on that the combination of flexibility and stability, which the nylon sole brings, gives better responsiveness and support. Particularly when accelerating Jakob is very impressed by the performance.

All in all the Nike Mercurial Vapor X is a top level football boot in its own right and if you think the new Vapor X is just the Superfly's little brother, then you are very wrong, because the Vapor X has some qualities of its own worth exploring.
It was finally time for another review from the Unisport WebTV team and this time we had a look at the new Mercurial Vapor X, which Jakob called potentially the best Vapor ever.
