What the Wave in the name does
Mizuno Wave sits in the sole of every Wave model. It is not the same part in each shoe.
- Wave Rider 29 has a Wave Plate. Mizuno lists cushioning, stability, forward propulsion and a smooth heel-to-toe weight transfer.
- In the Wave Inspire 22, a specially designed Wave Plate works with a bottom layer of ENERZY NXT. The aim is a balance of soft cushioning and stability.
- Wave Sky 9 uses Foam Wave. According to Mizuno, it adds stability during running and keeps the ride soft.

ENERZY NXT, the foam they share
All five models below use ENERZY NXT. Mizuno describes it as soft, with high energy return. Where it sits differs.

Neo Zen 2 or Neo Vista 3?
Neo Zen 2 is a neutral daily trainer for road and trail. Smooth Speed Assist is there for a smooth transition through each stride. Mizuno designed it to reduce fatigue on longer runs.
Neo Vista 3 covers training and tempo runs. Mizuno lists it for long-distance runs and quicker sessions.
Most of your week is easy kilometres, some of them on paths? Neo Zen 2. Faster sessions every week? Neo Vista 3. Neo Vista 2 is also listed, next to the 3.
A note on fit
The Smooth Stretch Woven upper on the Wave Sky 9 stretches across the foot, not along it. Do not count on it to give in length. Get the length right when you choose your size.
